The Diagnostic Laboratory

The lab provides rapid and reliable diagnostic analysis and interpretation of samples to aid diagnosis, both for our own vets and for a growing number of other practices throughout the country. This is a fully equipped laboratory, under the direction of veterinary surgeon Andy Durham, a RCVS Specialist and Diplomate in Equine Internal Medicine.

The laboratory provides comprehensive advice regarding sampling and reports on a wide range of results of haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, cytology and parasitology samples.

We offer an individually considered full interpretation of laboratory results by a colleague in practice with a broad clinical experience and post-graduate qualification in equine internal medicine. A faxed or emailed report is sent around lunchtime on the day of receipt of the sample (including Saturdays).

We are a nominated diagnostic laboratory for the detection of Contagious Equine Metritis (CEMO) under the HBLB scheme and appear on their list again for the 2010 season.

We are operating a normal laboratory service on Saturday 28th August 2010. If you have an urgent sample that you would like running over the bank holiday weekend, please call the hospital on 01428 727727 informing the duty nurses of the sample arrival.  Victoria Copas MRCVS will call you with a result.

Please note we recommend that ACTH samples are sent on Friday 27th August 2010 by next day guaranteed delivery only. Alternatively seperate the EDTA plasma and freeze. Send to the laboratory on Tuesday 31st August 2010.

Thank you.
